Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Sugar Land, TX - June 8, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (18-24) were defeated once again at the hands of the Sugar Land Skeeters (21-23), 3-2 on a walk-off home run by Jeremy Barfield in the bottom half of the ninth inning at Constellation Field on Monday night. Bridgeport suffered their fourth loss of the season in the opposing team's final at bat.
Bluefish Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan picked up a no-decision, pitching seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, walking none, striking out three, and hitting one batter, registering his fourth consecutive quality start. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Matt Wright also did not factor in the decision, tossing five innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out three.
The Bluefish took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second inning off Wright. Frazier Hall led off with a double, and advanced to third on a single by Jobduan Morales. Hall would then score on an error by second baseman Delwyn Young. The Skeeters would tie the game at one in the bottom half of the fifth inning off Riordan on an RBI groundout by Amadeo Zazueta, scoring Travis Scott, who led off the frame with a single. Sugar Land would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the eighth inning on a solo home run by Willy Taveras off reliever Luis Perdomo.
The 'Fish would not go down without a fight. With their backs against the wall in the top half of the ninth inning, Bridgeport would tie the game off Skeeters closer John Lujan. With one out and nobody on, Jake Luce reached based on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on a balk. Sean Burroughs then tied the game with an RBI single right up the trademark, scoring Luce, and in the blink of an eye we had a brand new ballgame. The tie would not last long as Barfield sent the Skeeters faithful home with smiles on their faces, belting a walkoff solo home run to begin the bottom of the ninth off Perdomo for the 3-2 victory. Perdomo (1-2) suffered the loss after pitching one inning plus, allowing two runs on two hits (two home runs allowed), striking out one. After blowing the save, Lujan (4-2) was credited with the victory, pitching one inning, surrendering one run on one hit while striking out one and throwing a wild pitch. Burroughs led the way for Bridgeport with three hits.
The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday, June 11th, when they host the Long Island Ducks as the 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
