Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Sugar Land Skeeters bullpen struggled late in Tuesday night's game resulting in a 7-5 loss to the Somerset Patriots. The Skeeters are now 6-6 in the second half and a half game up on the Lancaster Barnstormers for 1st place in the Freedom Division.
Delwyn Young continued to swing a hot bat and gave the Skeeters a huge lift in the 1st with a three-run bomb that would put Sugar Land up 3-0. As a result, Young pushed his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. Somerset responded with solo shots from David Vidal in the 2nd and Eric Farris in the 6th that would bring the score to 3-2.
The Skeeters extended their lead to 5-2 in the 7th on a pair of RBI singles from Delwyn Young and Ricky Hague. The Patriots clawed their way back in the bottom half of the inning beginning with Luis Mateo's triple that would score Yovan Gonzalez to bring it back within 5-3. An error by Ricky Hague on Mycal Jones' ground ball would allow Mateo to score, making it 5-4. David Vidal's RBI single off Andrew Johnston in the 8th would tie the game at 5-5. Bryan Lahair would put Somerset up 7-5 with a two-run blast off Derrick Loop. The Skeeters offense couldn't get anything going in the 9th as Jon Hunton came on for his 21st save.
