
Skateboard Icon Tony Hawk to appear at Indiana Firebirds February 23rd Game

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football League have announced that Skateboard legend Tony Hawk will perform a one-hour demo following the Firebirds game versus the Arizona Rattlers on February 23rd. Hawks' performance will take place on his own specially made $100,000 ramp that will be built on the Astroturf at Conseco Fieldhouse. Tickets to the event can be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 317-239-5151 and firebirds.com.
The appearance by Hawk is presented by Galyan's Sports and Outdoor Adventure, currently with four locations in the Indianapolis market and thirty-four nationwide. "Galyan's is a hometown retailer proud to support another hometown team," said Senior Vice President of Communications Joan Hurley. "We are excited about Tony Hawk appearing at the Firebirds game not only to help generate excitement for the Firebirds but also because Galyan's carries Tony Hawk skateboards and apparel."
A skateboarding icon, Hawk has been credited with single handedly legitimizing not only skateboarding, but also all action sports. His talents have brought skateboarding an unprecedented amount of exposure and mainstream respect. Credited with inventing over 80 tricks, Hawk has gathered a following in Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, and the United States.
Hawk, 34, has placed first or second in nearly every competitive event of his career. Among others, he has placed first in six different X-Games throughout his career, including doubles competitions, vertical competitions, and best trick competitions. In 2000, Hawk was an ESPY Award winner when he was voted the Best Alternative Athlete of the year. In the same year, he released a best-selling autobiography entitled HAWK: Occupation Skateboarder.
In 2001, he was the recipient of the first-ever ESPN Action Sports Achievement Award for his prowess in the craft of skateboarding. In addition to his best-selling autobiography, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game won three Blockbuster Awards for Favorite PlayStation, Dreamcast and GameBoy Game. He has also appeared in a variety of television commercials and marketing campaigns including Gap, Mountain Dew, Coca-Cola, AT&T, Gatorade, and the Got Milk? Ads.
