Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers scored five runs in the top of the tenth inning on Monday night at Bakersfield and shutout the Blaze for the second consecutive game by a score of 5-0. The win gave the Sixers their season-best fourth consecutive victory and the club's first sweep of an opponent in 2016.

Both pitching staffs were as dominant as the scoreless through nine innings scenario would indicate. Inland Empire starter Jake Jewell was tremendous and had his best outing of the year. The Norman, OK native tossed six shutout innings allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Neither he nor Bakersfield (12-18) starter Andrew Moore (6IP, 1H, 0R, 3BB, 4K) figured in the decision. Brian Loconsole tossed a scoreless inning of relief for Inland Empire (10-21) in the seventh and southpaw Jose Molina tossed two scoreless frames to push the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth with one out Dan Sebra was hit by a pitch for the Sixers by Blaze reliever Kody Kerski (0-1) and Ayendy Perez followed with a single. Tim Arakawa then doubled off the wall in right to knock in the first two runs of the game and extend his hitting-streak to a team-best 15 games. Inland Empire would add three more runs on RBI singles by Zach Welz, Taylor Ward and Jeff Boehm as the Sixers, who had just four hits in the first nine frames, banged out six hits in the tenth. Boehm, Ward and Caleb Adams had two hits apiece for the 66ers.

Eduardo Paredes pitched a scoreless bottom of the tenth to secure the win for Inland Empire and Molina (1-1). The 66ers have now tossed 18 consecutive scoreless innings. The 66ers held the Blaze to 0-for-31 with runners in scoring position in the three-game series.

The 66ers open a series at Lake Elsinore on Tuesday at 6:00 pm. The game can be heard live on 66ers.com at 5:45 pm and will be joined live in progress on 1570 AM KPRO at 6:30 pm.
