Drought Continues for Blaze in Sweep
May 10, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
In need of a jolt, the Blaze (12-18) got another masterful performance from Andrew Moore (1-1). Unfortunately for Moore, his offense was unable to show any kind of life in a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Inland Empire 66ers (10-21). For six innings Andrew Moore's performance was mirrored by Jake Jewell (0-4) until both pitchers hit the showers.
Jewell had his best performance of the season by pitching six innings, striking out 7, and surrendering just two hits. The right-hander came into the contest with an 11.07 ERA before he took care of a cold Bakersfield attack.
After falling in the first two games of the series, Bakersfield tried to get on track against a pitcher who has had no success up until this point. Dating back to seventh inning in Game 1 of this series, the Blaze offense has been held without a run in 18 consecutive frames.
Falling to 3-4 in extra innings games, the Blaze gave up five runs in the top of the tenth inning with Kody Kerski (0-1) on the mound. Kerski gave up all five runs in the inning and Eduardo Paredes slammed the door shut for the 66ers.
Tim Arakawa broke the scoreless affair up with a deep drive to right field that scored the first two runs of the game and that was more than enough for the visitors.
One week after sweep Inland Empire at Sam Manuel Stadium the Blaze received the same treatment in a three-game series at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Kyle Petty was one of the rare bright spots for the Blaze going 2-4, with a double and walk. Justin Seager also saw his hit streak of seven games snapped in the third game of a ten game homestand for the Blaze.
The San Jose Giants come to town for their first crack at the Blaze this season. First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:15pm and David Gascon will have the call on TuneIn Radio.
