Six-Run Rally Leads Marauders Past Lakeland

BRADENTON, Fla. - After a 90-minute weather delay prior to first pitch Tuesday night, the Marauders rode an early offensive outburst to an 8-5 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at LECOM Park.

A first-inning RBI-triple by Jase Bowen gave the Marauders (16-9, 45-45) a 1-0 lead that quickly vanished on a two-run triple by Lakeland's Austin Schultz in the top of the second.

But in the bottom of the second, Bradenton pounced on Flying Tigers (10-13, 42-47) starter Garrett Burhenn. Maikol Escotto led off with a single and stole second base, and after a one-out walk by Jasiah Dixon, a snap throw to first base by Lakeland catcher Eduardo Valencia placed Dixon in a rundown between first and second base. Dixon safely retreated to first as Escotto drew a throw across the diamond, and Escotto was awarded third base on an obstruction call after running into third baseman Izaac Pacheco mid-rundown. A Brenden Dixon walk loaded the bases, and Tsung-Che Cheng put the Marauders in front, 3-2, with a two-run single to center field. Bowen followed with an RBI-double, Cheng scored on a Juan Jerez fielder's choice grounder that saw a late throw home from second baseman Cristian Santana, and Bowen scored from third base when Jerez stole second base on an errant throw from Valencia. Sergio Campana capped the six-run rally with an RBI-triple for a 7-2 Bradenton cushion, knocking Burhenn from the game with one out.

After a scoreless first inning by rehabbing Pirates right-hander Nick Mears, Marauders lefty Anthony Solometo bent, but did not break, in relief. The southpaw allowed Schultz's two-run triple in the second and a Jose de la Cruz RBI-single in the third, but benefitted from superb run support. Through Solometo finished with three runs allowed on four hits and four walks, he left the game with Bradenton leading, 8-3, as Jasiah Dixon added a run in the bottom of the third by tripling and scoring on an errant snap throw by Valencia.

Carlos Campos pitched the fifth inning for the Marauders and allowed an unearned run before yielding the sixth inning to Bubba Chandler, who stole the show with an electric outing. Chandler struck out six across three and two-thirds innings, including striking out the side in order in the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Chandler allowed a leadoff single to Schultz, but the right-hander erased the leadoff baserunner with a timely pickoff for the inning's first out. After a groundout, a Pacheco walk and a Roberto Campos RBI-double followed, spelling Chandler's departure. Johan Montero entered to pitch and induced a game-ending popout to shortstop from Manuel Sequera.

The series continues Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. for Summer Camp Day. RHP Carlos Jimenez will start for the Marauders, while Lakeland will counter with RHP Jackson Jobe.
