Iowa Chops News Release

Just in case hockey fans in Iowa didn't know about Iowa Chops forward and Anaheim Ducks prospect Bobby Ryan... now they do. Thanks to a three-point night including two goals from Ryan, three points from forward Josh Green, and more efficient offense from the Chops, Iowa defeated the San Antonio Rampage by a 6-1 score on Thursday night in front of 3,059 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena. The win is the third in a row for the Chops, who have now scored 17 goals in their last three games on only 60 shots. The game began with the Iowa Chops on the defensive, but thanks to another solid effort in goal from JP Levasseur, the Rampage we unable to get on the scoreboard. The Iowa Chops scored first thanks to a goal from veteran Eric Boguniecki (pictured), who raced in on a breakaway and sniped a shot over the glove of Josh Tordjman for a 1-0 lead. It marked the 7th time this season the Chops have scored first and the 7th time the Chops have won when doing so. Brian Salcido and Josh Green assisted. The Chops broke open the game in the 2nd period with Ryan's first of the game to make it 2-0, as he came down the left wing and moved between two defenders before sliding the puck past Tordjman for his AHL-leading 6th power play goal of the season and 8th overall. Green got his second straight assist along with another helper from Adrian Veideman. The Chops wasted no time converting again on the power play as Josh Green lit the lamp for his 4th goal of the season with help from Bobby Ryan and Joakim Lindstrom. Just seconds later captain Ajay Baines made it 4-0 with a drive from the slot for his 2nd goal of the season with assists to linemates Ryan Donally and Francis Wathier. The Chops increased the lead to 5-0 with a goal from Troy Bodie, who put home a great pass from Andrew Ebbett who narrowly missed on a beautiful breakaway move moments before. Brett Festerling also assisted. Levasseur's shutout was spoiled late in the 3rd period as the Rampage converted on an extra-attacker goal on a delayed penalty call as Enver Lisin found himself open on the back door for a one-time past Levasseur's right pad. The Chops regained the five-goal lead with the final goal of the night from Bobby Ryan, who smashed home a rebound drive from the stick of John de Gray. Lindstrom posted the second assist on the goal. Four separate fights also took place in the game including Brennan Evans going toe-to-toe with Rampage toughman Francis Lessard. Wathier, Bodie and Donally were also involved in fisticuffs. The win moved the Chops into 2nd place in the AHL's West Division with a 9-5-0-0 record for 18 points.
