
Six Jackals Named to Post-Season All Star Team

LITTLE FALLS, NJ-The New Jersey Jackals placed six players on the 2002 Northern League East Post-Season All Star Team, which was announced today by the league. Right-handed pitcher Joel Bennett and third-baseman Ryan Kane were each selected for the second consecutive season, while shortstop Chas Terni and outfielders Travis Bailey, Billy Brown and Billy Rich were all picked for the first time.
The 32 year-old Bennett is 13-2 this season with a 2.94 ERA. He is one win shy of the Northern League record for most victories in a season. Bennett, a former major leaguer, leads the league in wins and strikeouts (136), is second in complete games (5) and is fourth in ERA.
Kane, a former Yankees and Angels farmhand, is batting .304 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI this season. He is ranked fifth in the league in runs-batted-in.
The 23 year-old Terni has established career-highs so far this year in every major offensive category. He is batting .305 with 10 home runs, 34 doubles and 63 RBI. Terni leads the league in doubles and is sixth in RBI.
Bailey, who is a leading candidate for the league's MVP award which will be announced next week, is batting .325 with 16 home runs, 24 doubles, 6 triples and 75 RBI. The former Cardinals draft pick leads the league in runs-batted-in, runs scored (75) and extra-base hits (46), is tied for second in home runs, is fifth in batting and is tied for third in triples.
The speedy Brown is hitting .324 (6th best in the league) with 7 home runs, 5 triples and 43 RBI.
Rich is second in the league in hitting with a .338 average. He also has 7 home runs, 25 doubles and 61 RBI this season.
Earlier this week Jackals' skipper George Tsamis was selected as the Northern League East Manager of the Year.
With four games remaining in the regular season, the Jackals are 60-26. They will open up the 2002 playoffs next Wednesday, September 4th, at Yogi Berra Stadium against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
