Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Renegades six game winning streak came to a screeching halt on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium after dropping the middle game of the series against Oneonta 10-2. Nick Barnese made his first start in almost two weeks and the rust really showed as he got roughed up early by the Tigers.

Oneonta got on the board in the first inning, scoring two runs after a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Barnese was making his first start since 8/2 and the time off really seemed to hamper him as he could not locate his pitches consistently.

The Renegades' ace couldn't make it out of the second inning, leaving with the bases loaded and two outs. Glenn Gibson replaced Barnese and served up a singl e to Mike Gosse, plating two runs that put Oneonta in front 4-0. Barnese's line was not pretty as he lasted only 1 2/3 innings, giving up four runs, while issuing three walks.

Jeff Carroll got the home team going in the bottom of the second with a single and then moved to third on a double by Justin Reynolds. Carroll then scored on a fielder's choice by Mike Ross. Ross then stole second and because of the throw, Reynolds was able to score from third cutting the Tigers' lead in half.

Oneonta continued to feast on Renegades' pitching, getting both runs back immediately in the following inning. Carlos Ramirez led off the inning with a monster homerun to left field then Brent Wyatt drove in one more on a double to the gap in right-centerfield, making it 6-2.

Ramirez also led off the fifth with a base hit then came around to score on Tyler Weber's double, extending Oneonta's lead to five.

Oneonta scored three more times in the eighth to put the Renegades away for good and bring the game to its final, 10-2.

The Renegades' offense only mustered four hits against Oneonta pitching, and struck out fourteen times as a team.

The ‘Gades look to win the rubber game of the series against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium. Chris Andujar (2-2, 5.59) gets the start on the hill and will be matched20up against Oneonta righty Mark Sorensen (2-2, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05. After Sunday's game, the team will be off for three days because of the All-Star break. Six Renegades were named to the All-Star game, which will be held in Tri-City. The game is scheduled for Tuesday night, with a homerun derby taking place before the game.
