Sioux Falls, SD--A new era of Sioux Falls professional baseball will begin on Thursday, May 13th at 7:05 PM when the Canaries host the defending American Association champion Lincoln Salt Dogs at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Canaries announced their 96-game, regular season schedule today. The schedule includes 48 home games at Sioux Falls Stadium and 48 road games.
The Canaries kick off their fifth season of American Association play with a four-game homestand, May 13th-16th against the Salt Dogs. The Birds will then travel to Wichita and Sioux City for a six-game road trip.
"The beginning of the season is always and exciting time," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "Facing the defending champions opening weekend will certainly add to that and provide a good challenge for us."
Sioux Falls first homestand with arch rival Sioux City will take place June 4th-6th. The St. Paul Saints will make their first trip to the Sioux Empire June 18th-20th. The Canaries will end the season with a season long, seven-game homestand August 23rd-29th.
In all, the home schedule includes six weekend home series and fans will see seven different opponents throughout the season. Sioux Falls will host North Division rival Lincoln in four different series' and fellow rivals St. City and St. Paul in three series each.
