St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

Sioux City, IA-The Blacksnakes miserable start on the road continued, as Sioux City knocked them off for the third straight game, 10-4. After St. Joe (5-11) struck first, the Explorers (8-8) scored 10 straight runs to take control of the game. The 'Snakes have won just once in their first ten games away from Phil Welch Stadium.

It started well for St. Joe as the first three batters reached in the second against Thomas Lipari. After singles by Cody Nowlin and Ben Thomas, Mark Burke doubled in both runners and St. Joe had the early 2-0 lead.

But Sioux City would roar right back, scoring five times in the bottom of the second, including a pair of home runs. A solo shot by Kevin Henry to start the inning was shortly follwed by Ryan Gripp's two-run blast to give the Explorers a 3-2 lead. They would add two more in the inning for a 5-2 advantage.

St. Joe had opportunities to get back in the game against Lipari. The best chance came in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out, but they could not come through and Sioux City put it away in the bottom half by scoring four more, including Kevin Henry's second home run of the game that made it 9-2.

The Explorers would tack on another in the fifth before St. Joe struck for a pair in the ninth for the 10-4 final.

Scooter Jordan reached base for the 14th straight game and Jimmy Mojica extended his hitting streak to a team best 10-consecutive. But St. Joe stranded 11 runners and have left 30 on base in the first three games of this series in Sioux City.

St. Joe will look to end this five-game losing skid with Dustin Kupper (1-0) starting Monday's series finale with Sioux City. The Explorers will go with Kieran Mattison (1-2). Game time is 7:05pm and our Heartland Health Pre-Game Show begins at 6:45pm. St. Joe then will head home for a three-game series with the division-leading Lincoln Saltdogs beginning Tuesday.
