
Sioux City Musketeers Double Header Weekend Preview

Sioux City Musketeers News Release
The Musketeers are 2-2 after an entertaining 6-4 win over the Madison Capitols as they head into their first double header weekend of the year against the Tri-City Storm and the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Musketeers will take on Tri-City on Friday, October 18th at 7:05 pm. Tri-City the defending Anderson Cup Champions and Western Conference 1-Seed in last year's Clark Cup playoffs and are currently 1-3-1-1 and 2nd to last in the Western Conference standings. Sioux City was 2-4-0-1 against the Storm last year but a key win being to lock their spot into the 2018-19 Clark Cup Playoffs. The Musketeers and Tri-City Storm will face off six times this season, this being the first of those six. Whereas Dubuque who was the 6-Seed in the Eastern Conference last year and currently 2nd in the Eastern Conference this year split the series with the Musketeers 1-1 last year and will only take on the Musketeers twice being from the Eastern Conference. The Fighting Saints are 4-0 on the year heading into their own double header matchup this weekend against Buccaneers and the Musketeers. This weekend will be the first of the two against Dubuque for Sioux City this year.
The Musketeers are 2nd in the Western Conference and 4th in the league in Powerplay's with a 28.6% success rate and Tri-City ranks 5th in the Western Conference and 11th in the league with a 11.4% success rate on powerplay's. Dubuque is 1st in the Eastern Conference and 2nd in the league to only Lincoln with a 30.8% success rate on powerplay's. So, the Musketeers will have to stay out of the box on Saturday. Tri-City ranks 2nd in the Western Conference in penalty kills with 87.5% killed off this season. Dubuque and Sioux City both rank 4th in their own conferences. Sioux City with an 83.3% penalty kill and Dubuque with an 86.7% PK. Both Sioux City and Dubuque have gotten the least amount of Power play opportunities in the league with 14 for the Musketeers and 13 for the Fighting Saints. Tri-City has the most opportunities in the league with 35 attempts. Dubuque is dead last in the league for penalty minutes with only 36 compared to the Musketeers 65 penalty minutes. Tri-City with 58 minutes given up that gives them 13th in the league in that spot.
The Musketeers had their offense turned up to high against Madison after Christian Jimenez, Blake Biondi, Viktor Masilevich and Josh Nixon all with their first goals of the year. Sam Stange also with his first of the year on an empty netter to seal the win over Madison. Dominic Vidoli scored his 2nd of the year after the overtime home opener winning goal in the first week of the month. Vidoli was also named the Defenseman of the week this past week as he is currently the 10th leading scorer in the league only with 3 games played everyone ahead of him with anywhere from 4-6 games complete. Vidoli with a strong year forthcoming and that name will be on the minds of other teams as one to watch.
The Musketeers will return for another double header weekend next weekend(Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th) when they take on the Lincoln Stars both games, Saturday recognizing Cross Check Cancer. The ice at the Tyson Events Center will be turned lavender, players will be wearing lavender jerseys to be auctioned live after the game.
