Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA-The Musketeers finally opened their home schedule on Saturday night against the Waterloo Black Hawk. Unfortunately, they were not able to get a win in front of their home crowd against their oldest rival losing by a final score of 4-2.

Both the Hawks and Musketeers were playing their third game in three nights, so things started slowly in the 1st period. The two teams combined for just 17 total shots in the frame with no penalties for either team. It wouldn't take long for the action to heat up in the second period.

Once again it was Marcus Kallionkieli who would find the back of the net for Sioux City to start the scoring on a superb passing play by Martin Pospisil and Bobby Brink. The goal came just 1:59 into the 2nd period. Waterloo would respond with a goal of their own by Matt Koopman at the 7:56 mark to tie things up at one. Waterloo would get a goal with under 30 seconds left in the period to take a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd intermission.

The Hawks extended their lead halfway through the 3rd on a goal by Matej Blumel to extend their lead to 3-1. The Musketeers would fight back thanks to a goal from Martin Pospisil less than a minute later, but that would be all the offense the Musketeers could find. Hank Sorensen added an empty net goal with under a minute to play to secure the win for Waterloo. Final score 4-2.

Ben Kraws was excellent again in net for Sioux City making acrobatic saves throughout the game including a huge save on a Waterloo breakaway that brought the fans to their feet at the Tyson Events Center. The Musketeers top line also continues their streak of excellent play combining for five total points on the night. Martin Pospisil now leads the league in points with 15 in just seven games while Marcus Kallionkieli sits second in the USHL in goals with eight, one behind Matt Brown of the Des Moines Buccaneers.

The Musketeers will now take on those Buccaneers on Tuesday night for Rock the rink sponsored by KKMA Radio and Winnevegas. A reminder puck drop is set for 6:35 pm, don't be late!
