Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Flying Aces swept the weekend series against the U.S. National Under-17 Team with a 3-1 win.

Central Illinois dominated puck possession against Team USA, outshooting them 43 to 19.

Team USA got on the board first late in the first period when Ty Smilanic wristed a shot into the net after he drove towards the net so that the goaltender was screened.

At 10:51 in the second, Lynden Breen (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) shot from the right circle through traffic. It trickled past the USA goaltender, and Philip Elgestål (Gotenburg, Swe.) dove to sweep the loose puck into the net. Colby Enns (Minot, ND) also assisted on the goal.

Jeremy Davidson (Schoolcraft, Mich.) stole the puck to prevent Team USA from exiting the zone. He passed to Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) who immediately passed back to Davidson. Davidson scooped the puck up and scored a lacrosse-style goal to give the Aces the lead at 19:12 in the second. Breen also assisted on the goal.

Davidson scored his second of the night at 14:04 in the third. He broke in on a two-on-one and scored glove-side to make it 3-1.

Mitchell Gibson (Phoenixville, Penn.) stopped 18 of 19 stops faced for Central Illinois.

Next weekend, the Flying Aces travel to Madison to take on the Capitols on Friday, October 26. The following night (Sat., Oct. 27), they host the Green Bay Gamblers at Grossinger Motors Arena at 7:07 p.m.

Season tickets and Mini Plans for the 2018-19 season are on sale now. For tickets or more information, call the Flying Aces at 309-434-2980 or visit www.flyingaceshockey.com.
