SIOUX CITY, IA The Sioux City Explorers announced today that their 2011 schedule has been finalized. The team will begin their 19th season in Siouxland and their quest for an American Association Championship on the road versus the Fort Worth Cats on May 12th, 2011. After a (4) game series versus the Cats, the Explorers will head to Shreveport, LA to take on the defending American Association champion Captains for a (3) game series before traveling home for the home opener on Friday, May 20th, 2011 versus the Fort Worth Cats with a post game fireworks display following the game.
The American Association will operate in 2011 with a total of (14) teams and (3) divisions, as the Sioux City Explorers will be a member of the American Association's Central Division along with the Lincoln Saltdogs, Gary SouthShore Railcats, Kansas City T-Bones, and Wichita Wingnuts. The American Association's North Division will be comprised of the St. Paul Saints, Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Sioux Falls Canaries, and the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The South Division will consist of the Fort Worth Cats, Shreveport-Bossier Captains, Grand Prairie Air Hogs, El Paso Diablo's, and a new franchise in Amarillo, TX.
The Sioux City Explorers 2011 season will feature a 100 game full season format. There will be a total of 50 home game played right here at Lewis & Clark Park with an equal number of games to be played on the road. In 2011, four teams will qualify for the playoffs - The three division winners and one wild card - the team with the best winning percentage that does not win a division. Both rounds will be best of five series.
