Sioux City Musketeers News Release
FARGO, ND - The Musketeers were in Fargo on Friday night in need of a win after a tough loss at the hands of the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday, and they got the bounce back they needed. Taking down the Force by a final score of 4-1.
The Musketeers needed to come out quick in this one, and they did just that thanks to the USHL's leading scorer and the league's top scoring line. Bobby Brink sped into the offensive zone before pulling up and finding a trailing Marcus Kallionkieli who then made a one-touch pass to the third man in, Martin Pospisil. Pospisil hesitated for just a moment before firing one past Ryan Bischel to give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead just 6:35 into the period. Fargo would make a push in the second half the period but they could not beat goaltender Ben Kraws sending the Musketeers into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
Sioux City has been one of the top scoring teams this season, and they showed exactly why in the 2nd period. Matt Miller would extend the lead for Sioux City, wiring one into the top shelf past Bischel to put Musketeers up 2-0 at the 9:53 mark. Albin Nilsson had the assist on the goal. Under three minutes later it would once again be the Musketeers top line doing the damage.
Martin Pospisil started with the puck low on the goalie's left-hand side; he then hit Bobby Brink with a pass at the top of the near circle. Brink then quickly fed the puck down to Marcus Kallionkieli in front of the net who moved across the goal before putting one past the outstretched pad of Bischel to give Sioux City a 3-0 lead. That would be the end of the night for Bischel, marking the second straight game the Musketeers have chased a starter from the net.
The Musketeers would head into the locker room with a 3-0 lead, but after their experience Tuesday they were well aware that no lead is safe.
Thankfully it looked as if the Musketeers learned their lesson as they kept their foot on the gas in the 3rd period. Ian Malcolmson would put the Musketeers up 4-0 at the 10:27 mark after stealing the puck from former Musketeer Connor Mayer before firing one into the top corner.
Fargo would eventually get one past Ben Kraws at the 15:35 mark but that would be all the offense Fargo could find. Final score 4-1.
The Musketeers top line was once again dominant. Through just TWELVE games the trio of Marcus Kallionkieli, Martin Pospisil, and Bobby Brink have combined for 55 points. Pospisil currently sits alone at the top of the league with 23 points and Brink is in a two-way tie for second with 19 points. Kallionkieli is tied for seventh with 13 points but has played only nine games, and in those nine games he as ten goals. So it's safe to say the leagues most dominant line resides in Sioux City.
Ben Kraws was once again excellent in net, stopping 24 of 25 shots sent his way while Ryan Bischel and Matthew Sanker combined for 24 saves on 28 shots
The Musketeers will look to keep the momentum rolling tomorrow night against the Omaha Lancers who currently sit in last place in the Western Conference. Puck drop set for 7:05 pm.
