Simone Charley's First Goal with the Pride Earns 1-1 Draw at Houston

HOUSTON - The Orlando Pride (9-8-5, 32 points) wrapped up the longest road trip in club history with a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dash (7-10-5, 26 points) on Friday night at Shell Energy Stadium. The result marked the final leg of a 10-day stretch that saw the Pride travel over 4,000 miles across three consecutive road matches in all competitions.

Simone Charley found the back of the net for the first time in her Pride career in the second half to secure the point on the road for Orlando. The goal was Charley's first goal since Sept. 2022 as she has battled back from multiple injuries, missing the entire 2024 season after rupturing the Achilles tendon in her right ankle after having also sat out the 2023 season due to the same injury in her left foot.

Haley McCutcheon recorded her third assist of the NWSL regular season on Charley's goal, bringing her goal contributions tally this season to six, which is second-most on the team. McCutcheon's goal contribution came against her former club where she played a key role in helping the Dash capture their first-ever piece of silverware as champions of the inaugural NWSL Challenge Cup in 2020.

Match Notes:

Forward Simone Charley scored her first goal for the Pride with her second-half finish. It is the first goal Charley has scored in NWSL play since Sept. 2022.

Midfielder Haley McCutcheon recorded the assist on Charley's finish, marking her third assist of the regular season this year, which leads the Club.

Charley's goal marked the ninth goal the Pride has scored in the final 15 minutes of a match this year, the highest tally in all of the NWSL this season.

Orlando has won eight points from losing positions in the NWSL this season. Only Portland Thorns (10) and Houston Dash (12) have recovered more.

The Pride is now unbeaten in its last two road matches in NWSL play after defeating the San Diego Wave last week and earning a draw against the Dash.

Head Coach Seb Hines made two changes to the starting lineup from the Club's last NWSL regular season match, with Rafaelle and Carson Pickett earning a spot in the Starting XI. Head Coach Seb Hines:

"A hard-fought draw. We are disappointed that we didn't come away with the three points with the goal that we conceded. We showed a lot of grit and determination to get ourselves back in the game. A well-taken goal from Simone [Charley], as well. She has been working hard to get that opportunity. She took it well and I think with the week that we have had, being on the road for ten days, any points you can get away from home is a good point. Overall, pleased with the performance. We move on. We look forward to next week, being back home in front of our fans."

Next Match: The Orlando Pride will return home to Inter&Co Stadium to host the Portland Thorns on Friday, Oct. 10. That match is set to kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
