Lynchburg, VA - Hillcats shortstop Andrelton Simmons has been nominated by Minor League Baseball for the Best Hitter at the Class A Advanced Level for the 2011 season. Simmons captured the Carolina League batting crown this season with a .311 mark. He was the only qualifying hitter to eclipse the .300 plateau. His 35 doubles ranked second, 211 total bases ranked fourth, and he led the league with 161 hits.

Drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft, Simmons entered his second season (first full-season) of professional baseball this year. For the second time he led his team in steals, swiping 26 bags in 2011.

Fans have until October 20 to cast their votes. Other awards include Best Pitcher, Best Play, Best Moment, Best Home Run, Best Reliever, Best Game, Best Promotion, and Best Team. Simmons is the only 2011 Hillcat up for an award but former 'Cat Devin Mesoraco is also nominated for Class Triple A Best Hitter.
