Simmons captured the Carolina League batting crown this season with a .311 mark. He was the only qualifying hitter to eclipse the .300 plateau. His 35 doubles ranked second, 211 total bases ranked fourth, and he led the league with 161 hits. Drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft, Simmons entered his second season (first full-season) of professional baseball this year. For the second time he led his team in steals, swiping 26 bags in 2011.
Terdoslavich broke a 65-year-old record when he smashed his 52nd double of the year in the first inning of the last game of the season. The doubles were the highlight of an all-around stellar offensive campaign. He ranked among the top five in the Carolina League in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.286, 3rd), home runs (20, T-3rd), RBI (82, 4th), extra-base hits (74, 1st), and slugging percentage (.526, 2nd).
Cardenas dominated the Carolina League to the tune of a 0.79 ERA, while holding opposing batters to a league-best .159 clip. He started the year in Lynchburg, earning two separate call-ups to Double A Mississippi, before ultimately finishing the season with the Hillcats.
Fans have until October 20 to cast their votes. Other awards include Best Pitcher, Best Play, Best Moment, Best Home Run, Best Promotion, and Best Team. Simmons, Terdoslavich, and Cardenas are the only 2011 Hillcats up for an award, while former 'Cat Devin Mesoraco is also nominated for Class Triple A Best Hitter.
