Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), seven-time U.S. Division champion of the Western Hockey League, announced today in conjunction with the WHL that goaltender Dustin Wolf has been named Eli Wilson Goaltending WHL Goaltender of the Week, for the week ending Mar. 31. A finalist for the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy as the WHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Year, Wolf has earned WHL Goaltender of the Week honors six times this season (seven in his career), in addition to Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week honors three times as well.
Wolf, 17, is eligible for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, ranked by NHL Central Scouting among North American Goaltenders and went 2-1 this past week to help the Silvertips advance to the second round of the postseason for the fifth straight year, winning the first round, 4-1 over Tri-City. This past week, Wolf captured 69 saves on 73 shots, his first career playoff shutout, a .945 save percentage, and 1.34 goals-against-average.
The native of Tustin, Calif. began the week with Game 3 on Wednesday, a 28-save performance in a 3-2 overtime loss at Tri-City. His effort between the pipes earned him the third-star honors in the game. The following night, Wolf recorded the first shutout of his WHL Playoffs career, stopping all 24 shots in a 3-0 win. Thursday's performance earned Wolf first-star honors of the game and for the night in the WHL. In Game 5 on Saturday, Wolf stopped 17 of 18 shots as the Silvertips won a 9-1 contest in the series-clinching game against the Americans. Appearing in all five games, he posted a .937 save percentage and 1.60 goals-against-average for the series and leads the postseason in goals against average, save percentage, and is tied for the league lead in wins (4) and shutouts (1).
Wolf recently completed his regular season as the WHL leader in wins (41), save percentage (.936), goals-against-average (1.69), minutes (3,615), was second in shutouts (7), and fourth in saves (1,493), while setting a new Silvertips single season record in wins, posting the second highest save percentage in the franchise's single season history, the second lowest goals-against-average in franchise history - and fourth lowest in WHL history. He recorded 30 saves or more in a game, 12 times in the regular season and earned a season high 43 saves on Dec. 8 in a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, Wash.
Wolf is 54-21-2-2 over 81 regular season games in his WHL career with the Silvertips, along with a .934 save percentage, 1.83 goals-against-average, and 11 shutouts. In Silvertips all-time history, Wolf is fifth in wins, fourth in shutouts, and the current all-time leader in save percentage and goals-against-average (minimum 20 games).
His 1.83 career goals-against-average currently ranks second lowest in league history (minimum of 60 games played).
The Silvertips return to play to open the second round of the WHL Playoffs against the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, a 7:05 p.m. face-off for Game 1 in downtown Everett. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/playoffs.
