April 1, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that forward Adam Beckman of the Spokane Chiefs has been named WHL Rookie of the Month for March 2019.
Beckman recorded 17 points (9G-8A) and a plus-two rating in 14 games as the Chiefs clinched a 2019 WHL Playoff position, followed by a first-round series win to move onto the second round of playoffs. The 2019 NHL Draft prospect also impressed with four multi-point performances, including a pair of two-point games and two four-point games.
On March 9, Beckman recorded his first of two four-point performances in March. Scoring Spokane's second and fourth goals and assisting on the first and sixth goals against the Victoria Royals, Beckman boosted the Chiefs to a 6-1 victory. For his efforts, Beckman was awarded both the first star of the game and the WHL's first star of the night. He then repeated his four-point performance again on March 16 against the Tri-City Americans, where he collected three even-strength goals and one power-play assist.
Making an impact for Spokane with five points (3G-2A) in the first round of the 2019 WHL Playoffs, Beckman aided his team in a 4-1 series win over the Portland Winterhawks. During the 2019 WHL Regular Season, Beckman recorded 62 points (32G-30A), including eight power-play goals and two game-winning goals in 68 games.
The Saskatoon, Sask. product was selected in the fifth round, 96th overall, by the Chiefs in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft. Last season, Beckman played for the Battleford Midget AAA Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League (SMHL) and tallied 78 points (44G-34A) in 41 games, earning SMHL awards for Most Goals, Most Points, Top Forward and a place on the First All-Star Team.
The 6-foot-1, 167-pound left-wing has been identified by NHL Central Scouting for selection at the 2019 NHL Draft, giving him a 44th-overall ranking on the Midterm Ranking list among North American skaters.
Beckman and the Chiefs return to action when they begin the second round of the 2019 WHL Playoffs against the Everett Silvertips at Angel of the Winds Arena, Friday, April 6 (7:05 p.m. PT).
