Silverbacks Are Back/Richmond 2-0 Versus Silverbacks This Season

RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, June 11, 2003) - The Richmond Kickers (4-4-2, 14 points) will host the Atlanta Silverbacks (1-5-4, 7 points) this Friday, June 13th at 7pm at the University of Richmond Stadium. Gates will open at 6pm and the first 1,000 fans in the gate will get a 2003 team poster courtesy of Wilkinson Printing.

The Kickers continued their domination of the Silverbacks as they defeated Atlanta 2-1 in overtime this past Sunday. Richmond now holds a 16-2-1 edge over the 'Backs, including a 2-0 record so far this season. Atlanta's lone win of 2003 was a 4-2 defeat of the Toronto Lynx on May 31st.

Forward Greg Simmonds has recently come on strong with his 1 goal and 3 assists all being tallied in the last three games. His six points have helped lead the Kickers to a 2-0-1 record since May 30th. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale is leading the league in minutes played with 948 and is tied for second with 36 saves.

Atlanta goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock is fourth in the league in saves with 33. Teammate Erik Ozimek is tied for second in the league with four assists while forward John Barry Nusum leads the team with seven points on three goals and one assist.

Richmond Kickers Future Lead Mid-Atlantic Division

With a 1-0 win over the Williamsburg Legacy last Friday, the Richmond Kickers Future of the Premier Development League (PDL) tied the Chesapeake Dragons for first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division. The Future are 5-1-0 on the year for 15 points and will face the Northern Virginia Royals of the Pro Select League (formerly D3 league) this Friday at 2:30pm at the University of Richmond Stadium.

Garay Makes PDL Team of the Week

Richmond Kickers Future midfielder Carlos Garay was named to the PDL Team of the Week for his game-winning goal against the Williamsburg Legacy on June 6th. The Future's win marked the first home defeat for the Legacy (12-1-1) in their two-year history.

Kickers Forward Makes Broadcasting Debut

Kickers forward Bret Myers made his broadcasting debut at last Saturday night's Virginia High School State Championship game between Godwin and Lake Braddock, which Godwin won, 4-1. The game, for which Myers provided color commentary, will be rebroadcast on Channel 36 in Henrico this Monday, June 16th at 8am and 8pm and again on both Saturday, June 21st and Sunday, June 22nd at 1pm.
