COACH'S CORNER:

Silver Stars' Head Coach Dan Hughes' thoughts on last week's play and this week's opponents:

on the Minnesota Lynx-

"When you talk about Minnesota, you talk about Katie Smith as an offensive focus. In my opinion she is the most underrated player in this league and her strength and athleticism is always underestimated. I have also been impressed with the Lynx's post players. When you look at Vanessa Hayden and Nicole Ohlde you see a good set of young post players that compliment each other well. Hayden has come on with a strong physical presence and Ohlde is one of the most mobile fours in our league."

on the Washington Mystics-

"When you take a playoff team from last year and add Delisha Milton-Jones you have a very talented group. Washington has a good compliment of inside / outside play. With Milton- Jones, Alan Beard and Charlotte Smith-Taylor shooting the three they have an outside perimeter game that can really affect play and inside they have a team that has great ability to grab the offensive rebounds. I also think Tamika Johsnon has come in and has been able to playoff her veterans teammates really well."

on the Houston Comets-

"Houston is a team that was already in a situation of being only a few games out of first place in the West and then they add back a Hall of Fame player with Tina Thompson, wow. Thompson really makes a difference. Sheryl Swoopes has had an outstanding year. I have also been really impressed with Dominique Canty at the point. I think she has really done a great job of running their team and organizing them in the right direction. They have a very talented group that they are meshing together right now."

SILVER STARS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Shannon Johnson is 27 assists away from reaching 1,000 for her WNBA career. When she reaches 1,000 assists she will become the first player in WNBA history to have scored more than 2,000 points and hand out 1,000 assists.
