Silver Stars Announce 2007 Training Camp Roster

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Silver Stars open training camp with practice from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 22 at Antioch Baptist Church Sports Complex and Community Center, 314 Eross St.

The Silver Stars will open camp with eight players and expect Vickie Johnson, Ruth Riley and Erin Buescher to join the squad in early May. Kendra Wecker will arrive mid-week and Becky Hammon is expected at the end of April.

The Silver Stars open 2007 with a new look as Buescher, Hammon, Riley and Helen Darling join returning players Marie Ferdinand-Harris, Sophia Young and Johnson.

Head Coach/General Manager Dan Hughes picked up North Carolina standout Camille Little and Virginia Tech's Nare Diawara in the 2007 WNBA Draft. Both athletes are attending rookie orientation in Chicago this week and will arrive in San Antonio Saturday.

The 2007 Silver Stars roster includes seven top 10 draft picks, seven Kodak All-Americans and five WNBA all-stars. Between the, Riley and Buescher have three WNBA Championship rings.

Practices during training camp will be at the Antioch Baptist Church Sports Complex and Community Center unless otherwise noted and are tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Practices are open to the media with Silver Stars players and coaches available for interviews following each practice session. Media members wishing to schedule extensive interviews after practice should contact the Silver Stars media services staff.

The Silver Stars have scheduled three pre-season games, beginning with a May 5 tilt against Minnesota at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kan. The Silver Stars then play Detroit May 13 at 1:30 p.m. in Omaha, Neb., followed by a home pre-season match with Connecticut at 7 p.m., May 14.

San Antonio opens the regular season on the road at Phoenix May 19, followed by the home opener against Connecticut on May 23 at the AT&T Center.

Single game tickets for the San Antonio Silver Stars 2006 season go on sale April 28 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or through the team's Web site at www.sasilverstars.com.

This year fans can listen to every Silver Stars game on The Ticket 760 AM, while selected games will be televised on KMYS My-35. Fans interested in purchasing Silver Stars season tickets can do so by calling (210) 444-5090.
