Silver Sox Wrangle Outlaws

August 19, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox defeated their rival Chico Outlaws 7 - 6 tonight, August 18, in a game that saw three lead changes and five homeruns.

Three of the first four Silver Sox run were solo shot homeruns from; DH Mike Done, LF Kane Simmons, his GBL leading 16 on the season, and SS Sam Walker, his first professional homerun.

For the first four innings the Silver Sox matched whatever the Outlaws threw at them. The Outlaws scored one run in the second, so did the Silver Sox. The Outlaws add another in the third, so did the Silver Sox. Finally, in the fifth inning the Silver Sox took the lead on Walker's solo homerun.

However, the Outlaws struck back scoring three runs in the sixth giving them their first true lead of the game. The Silver Sox weren't going to let the Outlaws run away with the game though as they knocked in two runs in the sixth to tie the game back up at 6 - 6.

In the bottom of the eighth with the game still tied at 6 - 6, 3B Chuck Sindlinger hit a hard line drive in the gap which allowed Done to score all the way from first and give the Silver Sox a 7 - 6 lead going into the ninth inning.

Silver Sox closer Eric Thomas came into the game needing just three outs to get the win for his team and the save for himself. Thomas struggled a little bit in the beginning finding the strike zone, but once he did it was over. Thomas allowed one hit, but got that batter out on a double play and then struck out the last batter to end the game.
