Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Silver Sox held on just enough to beat the Yuma Scorpions tonight, June 30, with a final score of 4 - 3.
Similar to last night, The Silver Sox started off the game taking the lead early. Tonight, the Sox took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Both 1B Jose Rodriguez and 3B Carlos Madrid both hit RBI singles, giving the Silver Sox a solid footing to start the game.
The Silver Sox would add one more in the fourth inning. With 2B Mike Done on second after having been hit by a pitch and stealing second, LF Kane Simmons hit an RBI double, bringing home Done and giving the Silver Sox a 3-0 advantage. However, the Scorpions kept pace knocking in their own run in the fifth inning.
However, the Silver Sox liked having a three run advantage and scored another run in the sixth inning. DH Cody Nowlin started the inning with a lead off triple and was brought home by the next batter Done, who followed Nowlin's triple with a double.
Silver Sox starter Matt Parris pitched himself to his second win of the season tonight. Parris finished the night pitching seven innings, allowing two earned runs, off of five hits, but also struck out six Scorpions.
Coming in to relieve Parris in the eighth was P Mike Peck who struck out the three Scorpions he faced in order, preserving the Silver Sox lead.
Sent in to close out the game for the Silver Sox was P Adam Nikolic. Nikolic walked the first batter he faced. Then he allowed a single, putting runners on the corners. However, after allowing a sacrifice fly to get his first out of the inning, Nikolic settled down and got the next to Scorpions to fly out. Getting the save for himself and the win for his team.
The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park tomorrow, Sunday, July 30, for the rubber match with the Yuma Scorpions.
