Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox beat the St. George Roadrunners 2 - 1 tonight, June 18, in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
The Silver Sox finally were able to get a lead and keep it. The game started off tight with the Silver Sox taking a 2 - 0 lead in the second inning. With one out, 1B Cody Nowlin hit a double up the middle. Then Nowlin was able to advance to third on an failed pick off attempt by the Roadrunner pitcher Mark Woodyard. With a man on third and one out, 2b Mike Done matched Nowlin's double with one of his own, scoring Nowlin from third. Following Done, was SS Chuck Sindlinger who hit an RBI single, scoring Done and giving the Silver Sox a 2 - 0 lead.
Silver Sox starter Nick Moran came out strong striking out five Roadrunners, while only giving up four hits and one unearned run in the fourth inning. Moran, however, left the game after pitching only four innings.
Sent in to relieve Moran was Josh Evans. Evans came into the game in the fifth inning and kept the Roadrunners at bay. Evans, who has a .93 ERA after last night, struck out three Roadrunners over three innings, allowing only two hits, and recorded the win moving his record to 2 - 0 as a reliever.
Manager Les Lancaster, then replaced Evans with Adam Nikolic. Nikolic shut down to Roadrunners, striking out three in two innings pitched, and only allowing one hit. The outing for Nikolic gave him his first save of the season and the second overall save for the Silver Sox this season.
The Silver Sox were lead on offense by their 2B and hitting coach, Mike Done. Done finished the night going 1-2, with an RBI and one run scored.
The Silver Sox play host again to the St. George Roadrunners for the second game of this two game series. Tomorrow, June 19, game also has a special promotion, "Two for Tuesday". Anyone who buys a Reserve Section or General Admission ticket at the Silver Sox ticket booth before the game will receive a second ticket of equal value for FREE! Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
