Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox started off the season on the right foot winning their first series of the season against the Chico Outlaws 2 games to 1.
However, since leaving the comforts of home in Reno, the Silver haven't done too well, losing the next four in Chico. The first loss came on June 10, with Reno losing 3 - 4. Silver Sox starter James Johnson pitched extremely well for the Silver Sox giving up only three hits over seven innings, however, the story wasn't the same for the Silver Sox bullpen. Reliever Josh Evans gave up three runs, all unearned, and Martinez gave up one unearned run as well in the ninth to record the loss. However, the loss could really be attributed to the errors being committed by the defense and not by the pitching staff.
On the offensive side of the ball the Silver Sox didn't do much better with 3B Carlos Madrid hitting a solo homerun, and 2B Mike Done 2-3, providing most of the offense.
On June 11, the story was much of the same with the Silver Sox losing 3 - 1, however it was now the starting pitching that got the loss and not the bullpen. Silver Sox starter Matt Parris pitched five solid innings, but gave up three runs, only one of which was earned. Reliever Adam Nikolic followed Parris's showing with three strong innings of his own, allowing no hits and striking out three.
The offense was again lead by 2B Done who went 1-3 with an RBI.
Then on June 12, the Silver Sox again had the lead going into the later innings, but gave it up due to errors committed by the defense. Silver Sox starter Dusty Bergman pitched six innings allowing only three runs, which was good enought to give the Silver Sox a 4 - 3 lead. However, going into the seventh inning, reliever Marshall Plouffe gave up one hit and four runs, none of which were earned. Evans stepped in for Plouffe in the eighth, and pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out three and allowing no hits.
On offense, the Silver Sox were lead by LF J.J. Johnson who went 2-4 with a homerun, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
Then tonight, the Silver again lost with a final score of 5 ? 1. The Silver Sox had another strong starting pitching outing by starter Nick Moran who pitched 7 2/3 innings allowing four runs, all earned, off of five hits, while striking out six Outlaws. On offense, the Silver Sox were led by CF Victor Hall who went 2-5 with a double, and scored the only Silver Sox run. On a more serious note, LF J.J. Johnson was hit by a pitch last night in the face. Details about his recovery will be coming soon.
The Silver Sox now head to Yuma, Arizona to take on the Yuma Scorpions. Currently, the Scorpions are in first place with a record of 6 - 1. The Silver Sox sit in fifth place with a record of 2 - 5.
The Silver Sox return to Reno on Monday, June 18, to face the St. George Roadrunners. This is the first meeting between the two teams. Tickets for the two game series can be bought online at www.silversoxbaseball.com or by visiting the Silver Sox ticket booth at Peccole Park two hours before game time.
