Reno Silver Sox News Release
Despite nine base hits, the Reno Silver Sox failed to score on Thursday night and were shutout 5-0 at the hands of the Long Beach Armada.
Silver Sox starting pitcher RHP James Johnson pitched six innings allowing only one earned run, but his effort would not be enough to match Armada starter RHP Justin Ramsey who pitched 6.1 innings of shutout baseball before LHP Rich Fischer came in to preserve the shutout for the final 2.2 innings.
Reno had runners on base throughout the night, but the sox would strand 12 runners in the game as they were unable to come up with the big hit. LF Carlos Madrid, who is now the team?s leading hitter, had three more hits in the game.
DH Jason Mooneyham tripled in a run in the third inning to score the first run of the game for the Armada and 3B Jeff LaRue had a three hit night scoring twice for Long Beach.
Like all Silver Sox games, game two of the four game set in Long Beach can be heard Friday night at 6:45 on ESPN Radio 630. The Silver Sox will return home June 29 to take on the Yuma Scorpions at Peccole Park.
