Scorpions Shrug off Long Beach Loss

Yuma Scorpions News Release
FULLERTON, Calif. -- Rich Janeway couldn't have picked a better time to get his first hit of Thursday's game as he drilled a triple off the right-field wall, scoring Pascual Matos and Jordan Prado, lifting the Yuma Scorpions to a 3-1 win.
Matos put Yuma on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the third inning, as he was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The three runs was just enough for Scorpions starting pitcher Roger Luque. The veteran left hander was stellar in his first start of the season, coasting through the seven innings, striking out eight Flyers batters while allowing just four hits.
Orange County got its own great pitching performance from starter Mike Natale, who went 7 2/3 innings, striking out 11 batters before allowing Janeway's triple, which gave him the lost.
The loss snapped the Flyers' four-game winning streak and improved the Scorpions to a Golden Baseball League best 12-2.
The two teams renew acquaintances Friday night with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Scorpions fans can listen to all the action on yumascorpions.com and KBLU 560 AM in Yuma.
And don't forget Scorpion's fans, your Yuma Scorpions return for a huge 4th of July celebration when the St. George Roadrunners come to town. They'll be free giveaways, games, prizes, fireworks, and so much more! Get your tickets now by calling 257-4700 or visting our website.
