Silver Sox Sign Colorado AAA Starter and Local Reno Star Marc Kaiser
May 5, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release
(Reno. NV,May 6, 2008) The Reno Silver Sox of the independent professional Golden Baseball League continued to improve their rotation today as they agreed to terms with RHP Marc Kaiser, a Triple-A experienced hurler and Reno native who starred at Reno High and the University of Arizona before beginning his pro career.
"It's great to have Marc as a member of the Silver Sox, although I would be surprised if he lasted very long before a major league team comes calling," said Reno Silver Sox Manager and former MLB All-Star Jeffrey Leonard. "Marc has been a top closer everywhere he's pitched and it will be exciting for our tans and his teammates to have him on the mound."
Kaiser, 25, was drafted in the 4th round by the Cincinnati Reds out of Reno High School in the 2000 Amateur Draft. He elected to go to college and accepted a scholarship to the University of Arizona after being pursued by major college baseball programs throughout the country. Rated one of the top three high schoolers in the nation to bypass the major league draft and attend college by Baseball America, he quickly established himself as a top pitcher at UA. After his collegiate career he was drafted in the 10th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2003 Amateur Draft. He rocketed through their farm system, being promoted each year and starting 98 games in five seasons. He notched an 11-win season in Single-A with Asheville of the South Atlantic League and a 10-win season with Tulsa in the AA Texas League and led the league in Complete Games. He spent all of 2007 with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in AAA and posted a 6-8 record in 19 starts. Stacked up in the Rockies organization behind a young major league pitching staff that led the big league club to their first World Series appearance last year, he was released this spring so he could pursue opportunities with other organizations.
Kaiser is the second AAA experienced pitcher to sign with Reno for 2008 as he joins closer Scott Schneider who set the GBL single-season saves record with the 2006 GBL Champion Reno Silver Sox after playing in AAA in the Los Angeles Angels system.
