Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox came back from two runs down in the eighth to beat the visiting St. George Roadrunners 9 - 6.
The Silver Sox weren't able to even get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning, and for a brief time, even had more errors than hits. However, the Silver Sox came to life in the eighth scoring five runs which not only give them the lead by also, as it turns out, the victory.
The Roadrunners struck first with two runs in the second and third innings, putting the Silver Sox in a small hole. However, the Silver Sox would cut the lead in half in the fourth, notching their first runs of the game off of a two RBI double by 1B Ryan Brown.
The Roadrunners would score one more in the fifth and eighth innings, as would the Silver Sox in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Silver Sox rally in the eighth started when LF Kane Simmons hit hit his thrid homerun of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall, with one out. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, newcomer RF Ryan Kowalski hit a two RBI double, scoring SS Chuck Sindlinger and 3B Carlos Madrid. CF Victor Hall was then able to score on a passed ball by the Roadrunner catcher, making the score 8 - 6. DH Juan Senreiso then hit an RBI double of his own, keeping the two-out rally alive, scoring Kowalski, before C Jose Rodriguez struck out to end the eighth.
The Silver Sox bullpen also finally seemed to pull it together with Adam Nikolic pitching 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out two, before he was replaced by Chris Testa due to a cut on his finger.
Testa, couldn't seem to find his zone as he walked two and allowed a hit, loading up the bases before Manager Les Lancaster put in the new Silver Sox pitcher Shawn Balteff.
Balteff would walk in a run, before finally shutting down the Roadrunners. Balteff finished with 1 2/3 innings pitched, allowing no hits, one walk, and three strikeouts.
The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park tomorrow night for the second game of this three game series against the St. George Roadrunners. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with gates opening at 4:00 p.m.
