Orange County Flyers News Release
The Orange County Flyers used a superb pitching performance and some timely hitting to scratch out a 4-1 victory over the Chico Outlaws.
Flyers starting pitcher Alex McRobbie (3-0) pitched a complete game and 1B Scott Goodman provided a bases loaded 2-run RBI single to propel the Flyers to a 4-1 win over the Chico Outlaws on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.
In a rare pitcher's dual, McRobbie won the battle against Outlaws' starter Jacob McKinley (2-2), getting the victory pitching the complete game giving up 1 earned run and 7 hits while fanning 9 Outlaws along the way.
Both teams failed to score during the first 4 innings as both pitchers cruised along relatively smoothly.
The Flyers got on the board first in the 5th inning as Flyer C Buddy Morales jumped started the 2-out rally with a single the left field. McKinley experienced a temporary loss of control as he hit 2B David Bacani with a pitch and walked CF Aaron Davis to load the bases. McKinley then walked LF Rich Pohle to score Morales and give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
The Flyers scored 3 more runs in the 7th on an RBI single by Davis off Chico reliever John Jefferson (1-0) and a 2-run bases loaded single up the middle by Goodman to give the Flyers a 4-1 lead they would not relinquish.
The Outlaws took advantage of a rare McRobbie mistake in the 7th to get their sole run when CF Jason Matteucci turned on a 2-0 pitch to hit his 1st home run of the season over the right field wall.
The Flyers split the 2-game series with the Outlaws to improve to 16-15 on the year. They will go on to face the Yuma Scorpions in another home series starting Monday night at Goodwin Field.
