Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox have run into a string of injuries and even a retirement that has cut down the roster by three players forcing Manager Les Lancaster to make some adjustments to his lineup.
?You can?t have any control over who gets injured or when,? said Lancaster.
The first injury came in the June 12 game against the Chico Outlaws in Chico to LF J.J. Johnson. Johnson was batting on a 0-1 count and swung on a high fastball. The ball caught the end of Johnson?s bat and redirected the ball hitting Johnson in the face. Johnson was escorted off the field by paramedics, but walked off under his own power. Johnson received a broken nose and a broken sinus bone in his face.
The second came to RF J.J. Sherrill who suffered a knee strain in Chico as well. Sherril,l along with Johnson, did not make the trip to Yuma to face the Scorpions, instead both stayed in Reno to receive treatment for their injuries.
Luckily, Johnson?s and Sherrill?s injuries were not more serious and the Silver Sox starting left and right fielders will return to the Silver Sox on Monday, June 18, for the series against the St. George Roadrunners.
Lastly, pitcher Brian Keating decided to retire. Keating a left-handed pitcher from Michigan, decided to retire after his arm would not stop causing him pain.
?I just had to do what was best for me and my future. Retiring seemed like the right option for me,? said Keating about his retirement decision.
