Chico Outlaws News Release

After Outlaws manager Mark Parent got tossed arguing balls and strikes after a Daniel Nava at bat, Chico exploded for 5 runs in the 5th inning to top the St. George Roadrunners 6-3. Todd Gelatka worked the 9th for his league leading fourth save.

In the 5th inning, center fielder Steve Boggs cracked a 3-run double, putting the Outlaws on top 3-2. Boggs extended his hitting streak to 5-games with his double. Then Daniel Nava smashed his first professional triple, driving Boggs in.

Reno starter Mike Storey, who had pitched well until the 5th inning, couldn't make it out of the inning as Haley Winter got the final out. All told, the Outlaws scored 5-runs, the highest scoring inning of the year for Chico. Chico tacked on an insurance run in the 8th.

The Roadrunners struck first, going up 2-0 in the third after Chico starter Derrick Loop struggled with his control, walking four, hitting a batter and making 3 wild pitches - tying Rodrigo Miralles' single game team record, set in June, 2005. John Jefferson made a wild pitch after relieving Loop, tying the club record for total wild pitches in a game set on June 10 of last year at four.

Left-fielder Jason Van Meetren continued his hot streak since returning to the lineup after missing the first five games to study and take the LSAT by going 2-for-4. Van Meetren is batting .500 (4-for-8) with 5 runs scored in three games.

The Outlaws' bullpen hadn't allowed a run since June 9th, a stretch of more than 12 innings, but John Jefferson snapped that streak by allowing a run in the 6th inning. It was the first run Jefferson has allowed this year in 5.1 innings of relief work.

Reno pitcher Anthony Baca made his first appearance of the year in the 9th inning. Baca was signed before the game and pitched a scoreless inning in the loss.

The Outlaws made four errors, two by catcher Brock Ungricht on stolen base attempts by St. George runners. After both errors, the runners advanced to 3rd. The four errors were the most by Outlaw fielders this season.
