Silver Sox Out-Fly Flyers

The Reno Silver Sox defeated the Orange County Flyers tonight, August 23, by a final score of 10 - 9 in a game where the first inning alone took 33 minutes.

In the first inning umpire Tyler Ramsey was struck in the foot by a groundball hit by LF Kane Simmons. Then Flyer starter Ben Fox had to be taken out of the game after only recording one out because of dehydration. When all was said and done, the Silver Sox left the inning with a 4 - 0 lead.

The Silver Sox would add another run in the second before the Flyers lit up their side of the scoreboard. Silver Sox starter Adam Harendza pitched well for the Silver Sox, six innings, allowing four runs off six hits while striking out two Flyers.

The Silver Sox added another run in the third and then three more in the fourth which was matched by the Flyers. The score going into the seventh inning was 9 - 4 with reliever Joe Walentin taking the mound for Harendza. Walentin pitched great for the Silver Sox in the seventh and eighth innings before he started to run into some trouble in the ninth.

With a now six run lead, 10 - 4, Walentin walked the first two batters he faced in the inning and then Flyer CF Garry Templeton II hit a 3-run homerun over the leftfield wall to bring the Flyers within three. Walentin was then relieved by Eric Thomas after allowing another single. Thomas struck out the first batter he faced, who was then ejected after arguing the call. Flyer LF Rich Pohle then grounded out to first before the game got interesting. Flyer DH Peanut Williams then hit an RBI single, a wild pitch moved Williams over, then 1B Scott Goodman hit an RBI single to score Williams and bring the Flyers within one run of tying the ball game at 10. However, Thomas settled down got RF Mark Okano to ground out into a fielder's choice to end the game with the Silver Sox winning 10 - 9.
