Reno Silver Sox News Release
The Reno Silver Sox can't seem to catch a break as the plague of injuries continues to affect the team, moving from one player to another.
The Silver Sox have placed three more players on the inactive list; pitcher Matt Scott, pitcher Keaton Everitt, and shortstop Jordan DeVoir, and released one player, pitcher Marshall Plouffe.
Scott came to the Silver Sox after finishing up his college career at Middle Tennessee University. Scott started two games for the Silver Sox before getting injured during his start against the St. George Roadrunners. He finished the season for the Silver Sox with a 0-0 record and a 9.00 ERA over seven innings pitched. Scott also had six walks and six strikeouts before the injury.
Everitt came to the Silver Sox after being released from the Charleston Riverdogs of the South Atlantic League, an affiliate of the New York Yankees. Everitt, also started two games for the Silver Sox before his shoulder injury during a start against the Yuma Scorpions. Everitt finished with a 1-0 record with a 6.00 ERA over nine innings pitched. Everitt had four walks and five strikeouts.
DeVoir played in 16 games for the Silver Sox and was the Silver Sox opening day starter at the shortstop position. DeVoir struggled through the first part of the season, but was finally starting to find his swing when he was injured. DeVoir had a foul tip hit off of his shin, which caused bone chips in his shin. DeVoir finished the season with a .241 batting average over 58 at-bats. DeVoir had one homerun and eight RBIs.
Plouffe just couldn't seem to find his groove during his time with the Silver Sox. Plouffe was brought in to be the closer for the Silver Sox, but Plouffe only had one save in nine appearances. Plouffe finished his career with the Silver Sox with a 0-1 record, and a 12.71 ERA over 11 1/3 innings pitched. Plouffe also had seven walks and 12 strikeouts.
Brought in to fill the roster spots were; catcher Joe Melton, outfielder Kane Simmons, first baseman Ryan Brown, and outfielder Juan Senreiso.
Melton just finished his career playing for the Crichton College Comets and this will be his first season as a professional. In 2006 for the Comets, Melton hit for a .288 batting average, with 32 hits and 21 RBIs.
Simmons, also a first time professional, just finished playing for the Belmont University Bruins. Kane, a lefty, played both the outfielder and as a pitcher. In 2006, Simmons started all 55 games for the Bruins and ended the season with a .291 batting average with nine homeruns, 45 RBIs, 16 walks, and 13 hit by pitches.
Brown played 2006 with the Cincinnati Reds rookie ball affiliate, the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League appearing in 39 games. Brown finished with a .211 batting average, seven doubles, and 13 RBIs.
Senreiso was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Texas Rangers in 2000 and played in the Rangers organization until 2006 when he was playing for the Royals organization. Senreiso played most of 2006 with the Royals A affiliate the High Desert Mavericks of the California league before being called up to the AA affiliate the Wichita Wranglers. In four games with the Wranglers, Senreiso had a .267 batting average over 15 at-bats, with one homerun and four RBIs.
"You don't like guys getting injured, especially two starting pitchers, however the guys we brought in should be able to make a contribution to this team immediately," said Silver Sox Manager Les Lancaster.
