Silver Hawks Announce Opening Day Roster

SOUTH BEND, IN – The South Bend Silver Hawks, who made the post-season playoffs after a one-year absence, announced their opening day roster for Thursday, April 8th, when the Silver Hawks open the 2004 campaign At The Cove versus the Fort Wayne Wizards. The Silver Hawks will have six familiar faces returning to a team that won 72 games last season.

Pitcher Ryan Coffin returns after joining the team early last season, when an injury to starting pitcher Keith Whatley sidelined him and opened the door for Coffin. Pitcher Chris Kinsey returns to South Bend after performing in 10 games and throwing 11 2/3 innings, while fanning 23. The 4th round pick was 0-0 last season with the Silver Hawks.

The Silver Hawks also welcome back outfielder Jeff Cook, who hit .279 in 65 games, slick fielding infielder Tila Reynolds, outfielder Lino Garcia and infielder Dan Firlit.

Several former Silver Hawks have made the Arizona Diamondbacks opening day roster. Pitchers Casey Daigle, Mike Koplove Jose Valverde, Oscar Villareal and Brandon Webb made the roster, while infielder Matt Kata joins catcher Robbie Hammock on the Diamondbacks roster. Hammock will begin the season on the disabled list.

The Silver Hawks open a seven game homestand against the Wizards with games Thursday through Saturday, before entertaining the West Michigan Whitecaps in a four game series April 12th through April 15th. All game times for the homestand are slated for 6:30 PM.
