Tucson Sidewinders News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - It took 10-plus innings, but the Tucson Sidewinders finally got to the Portland pitching staff.

The Sidewinders scored two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings and got a three-hit performance from Andy Green in downing the Beavers Wednesday night at PGE Park, 6-3.

Eight different batters had hits as part of Tucson's 12-hit night with 10 of those coming off Portland starter Matt Bruback, who yielded each of the six runs to fall to 0-2.

Andrew Good (1-0), who took over in the second inning following one inning of rehab work by Shane Nance, logged 4.0 innings of relief, allowing all three Portland runs.

Brandon Villafuerte, a former Beaver, got the save by pitching the eighth and ninth.

The Sidewinders (9-4) scored two runs in the second inning--something they couldn't do the night before when they were shut out by the Beavers (5-9). After Alan Zinter drew a leadoff walk, Luis Terrero opened the scoring with an RBI single and made it 2-0 by stealing second and coming around to score on Craig Ansman's single to right.

Ben Petrick, a Portland-area resident making his Beavers debut, celebrated his homecoming by blasting the second pitch he saw out of the park to lead off the bottom of the second during his first at-bat.

Petrick, a former second-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies from Hillsboro, Ore., joined the Beavers on Monday after his recent release from the Detroit Tigers organization.

Scott Hairston hit his second home run of the year-a two-run shot off Bruback that scored Green-to give Tucson a 4-1 advantage in the third.

Portland answered with a run-scoring double by Jon Knott that got the Beavers to within two runs in the bottom of the third.

Green and Julio Ramirez drove in runs in the fourth for a 6-2 Tucson lead.

Yamid Haad hit his first homer of the season in the fourth.

NOTES: The Beavers pitching staff entered the game ranked second in the Pacific Coast League in pitching with a 3.11 ERA ... the 10 hits and six runs given up by Bruback are the most allowed by a Portland pitcher this season ... Bruback went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and a run scored ... it was the first Zenner's Dollar Dog night at PGE Park ... Brian Bruney, a native of Astoria, Ore., pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the Sidewinders, striking out four and retiring all six batters faced ... in addition to his double, Knott hit two balls deep to left field that were caught by outfielder Doug Devore ... it was the first time the Beavers have hit two home runs in a game in 2004.
