Tucson's offense produced six runs early and the bullpen posted perfect innings late to defeat Portland 6-3 Wednesday night at PGE Park.
The Sidewinders scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings off Portland starter Matt Bruback. Luis Terrero and Craig Ansman provided run scoring singles to put the Sidewinders on the board first in the second.
Tucson increased the lead in the third when Andy Green doubled and Scott Hairston hammered a long home run, leaving PGE Park entirely. The ball bounced on the train tracks across the street and the Sidewinders had a 4-1 advantage.
Green and Julio Ramirez both added run scoring singles in the fourth when Tucson pushed the lead to 6-2.
Andrew Good surrendered solo homers to the Beavers Ben Petrick and Yamid Haad but pitched four innings for a win in his return to Tucson from the Diamondbacks. Brian Bruney pitched in front of friends and family in his homestate of Oregon threw two perfect innings, striking out four. Brandon Villafuerte threw two perfect innings for his first save of the year.
Green finished with three hits. Luis Terrero and Craig Ansman each added two hits.
Tucson improved to 9-4. The Sidewinders will game three of the series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Jon Cannon (0-0 2.08) will take the mound for Tucson against Portland's Joey Hamilton (0-0 4.50). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
