Albuquerque, NM - Jesus Merchan had four hits and drove in five runs to lead a balanced Tucson attack as the Sidewinders blasted Albuquerque 17-6 on Saturday night. The Sidewinders have won four of six on their current road trip and six of their last eight overall.
Jamie D'Antona had three hits and three RBI and Josh Whitesell homered and drove in three as the Sidewinders equaled their season high with 24 hits. Emilio Bonifacio went four for six and now has at least two hits in each of his last nine games.
The Sidewinders scored in every inning except two and had two or more runs in four of the nine innings. Even Sidewinders reliever Connor Robertson got in on the act as he doubled home a run as part of the Sidewinders four run ninth.
Trot Nixon had three hits, including a solo home run to open the ninth, and drove in two.
The Sidewinders and Isotopes continue their four game series on Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park. Right-hander Billy Buckner (0-3, 7.94) starts for Tucson against left-hander Dallas Trahern (0-1, 7.50) for Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 Tucson time. The game will air LIVE on COOL 1450 beginning at 12:25.
