Albuquerque, NM - Billy Buckner took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and completed eight shutout frames as the Sidewinders beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 11-2 on Sunday afternoon for their third straight win and seventh victory in their last nine games.
Buckner allowed just one baserunner and faced the minimum through seven before Jason Wood led off the bottom of the eighth with a clean line drive single to right. Dallas McPherson followed with a single but Buckner induced a double play grounder from Paul Hoover and a routine ground ball from Dante Brinkley to end the inning.
Tucson's offense was out in full force for the third straight day as they pounded out 16 hits. The Sidewinders hit five home runs, including two by Donnie Kelly. Alex Romero, Trot Nixon and Josh Whitesell also homered with Whitesell and Kelly combining for eight RBI.
Romero went 4 for 4 and scored three runs. Emilio Bonifacio singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 10.
