Portland Beavers News Release

TUCSON, Ariz. - Chris Young doubled and scored the winning run on a bases-loaded single by Brian Barden in the 10th inning, and the Tucson Sidewinders completed a four-game sweep over the Portland Beavers with a 6-5 victory Tuesday night at Tucson Electric Park.

The Beavers, who have lost six straight road games, were swept for the first time since the 2005 season. They were outscored 31-8 in the Tucson series and have been outscored 37-8 during their current road skid.

Juan Brito was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Tucson (35-25), including a two-run double to start the scoring in the second inning.

Greg Aquino (1-0) worked the final two scoreless innings for Tucson to pick up his first win of the season with the club. Aquilino Lopez (2-1) suffered his first loss of the campaign after allowing the winning run in the final inning.

Tucson's Scott Hairston hit a game-tying solo home run off Jason Anderson in the eighth after the Beavers rallied to take a 5-4 lead.

Trailing 4-1, Manny Alexander's fifth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the sixth, got the Beavers to within a run. Ben Johnson's two-out RBI double and a run-scoring single from Jack Cust gave the Beavers a 5-4 lead in the seventh.

Starter Cesar Carrillo, the top prospect of the San Diego Padres, gave up two runs on two hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings in his Triple-A debut with the Beavers.

Down 2-0, the Beavers broke a 15-inning scoring drought in the fourth inning. Jon Knott led off the inning with a double and scored on Cust's RBI single, but Tucson responded with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to take a 4-1 lead.

Cust was 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Beavers (30-28).

The Beavers are off on Wednesday before opening a five-game series at Sacramento Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: The Beavers loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning but failed to plate a run ... Alexander's home run was his first away from PGE Park this season ... Paul McAnulty struck out in a pinch-hit at-bat in the 10th to end his nine-game hitting streak ... the Beavers are now 2-3 in extra innings.
