Dallas Sidekicks News Release

DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Sidekicks will wear green and white uniforms replicated from the 1984-92 seasons when they host the Baltimore Blast December 14 and Cleveland Force December 15 at Reunion Arena. This is the first season that Dallas has been in the same league with Baltimore and Cleveland since the original MISL folded after the 1991-92 season.

"We wanted to do something that honors the tradition of these rivalries and the players that made these cities staples in the original MISL," says Sidekicks General Manager Jim Tolbert. "The Sidekicks are proud of their history and having a lot of the former Sidekicks players here to be introduced before Saturday's game will serve as a connection between where we are and where we are going."

The Sidekicks are in their 18th season and first in the new MISL. Dallas played its first eight seasons in the inaugural green and white uniforms before switching to the purple, silver, and black color scheme in 1993. The first eight Sidekicks seasons were all in the original MISL. The Baltimore Blast and Cleveland Force were also in the original MISL. Those franchises went to the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) when the original MISL folded in 1992. Dallas moved to the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL) from 1993 to 1997 and the World Indoor Soccer League (WISL) from 1998-2001. The merger of the WISL and MISL in December of 2001 put these cities back in the same league for the first time since the original MISL. The Sidekicks have four championships: 1987 MISL, 1993 CISL, 1998 WISL, and 2001 WISL.

There are several members of the Sidekicks team and staff that are here from the original MISL era. Player and head coach, Tatu, ties the entire franchise together, and is the only current player from the original team that player the 1984-85 season. Assistant coach Michael Powers joined the Sidekicks for the 1986-87 season and retired following the 2001 WISL championship season. Powers and Tatu are the only members of all four Sidekicks' championship teams. Current players David Doyle and Nick Stavrou joined the Sidekicks for the 1991-92 season. General manager, Jim Tolbert, joined the Sidekicks sales staff in 1989 and former Sidekicks goalkeeper Billy Phillips (1984-87) is a member of the Sidekicks/Mavericks corporate sponsorship staff.
