Dallas Sidekicks News Release
(ALLEN, TEXAS) The Dallas Sidekicks have announced the signing of free agent midfielder Julio Varela to an agreement for the 2020-21 Major Arena Soccer League season. As per team and league policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Varela played for the Turlock Cal Express last year before becoming a free agent at the end of the season. He is the second free agent signing to be announced by the Sidekicks. Varela was very impressive in his limited playing time scoring five goals in his six games played for Turlock. His five goals came on 21 shots for an efficient 23.8% goal per shot ratio. Varela is not just a goal scorer but a true playmaker as he dished out five assists as well.
A California native, Varela also played in the USL last year for the Santa Cruz Breakers which limited his MASL action. He was MVP of the Watsonville High School soccer team before moving onto Hartnell College to play soccer and later transferring to study Kinesiology and playing for California State University in Monterey Bay.
