Sidekicks Re-Sign Felipe De Sousa

October 20, 2021 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) - Dallas Sidekicks News Release

The Dallas Sidekicks have re-signed the 2021 2nd team all MASL team player and Dallas Sidekicks 2021 Offensive Player of the Year, Felipe De Sousa, for the 2021-2022 season.

With his aggressive play, De Sousa scored 17 goals in nine games, where he scored four hat tricks and two braces in the 2020-2021 season. He was second in the league with most goals scored and scored the game winning overtime goal on February 6th against the Tacoma Stars. He ranked in MASL top 10 in both total points (18) and points per game (2.0).

De Sousa grew up in Tampa, Florida, but he was born in Espirito Santo Vilha Velha, Brazil. In Brazil, he played soccer wherever he could and then moved to the United States when he was a teenager, where he played on select teams in Texas and Florida. He also played at the collegiate level at Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Tampa.

He spent most of his career playing outdoor soccer and futsal but started practicing regularly with the Sidekicks in 2014. In 2019, De Sousa signed his first professional indoor contract with the Sidekicks, where he was on the MASL All Rookie Honorable Mention List for that season.

"It's good to be back playing for the team that gave me my first chance at playing professionally," De Sousa said. "We have a lot of potential to be successful as a team this year and to make it to playoffs again after getting a taste of it last season."

When asked about De Sousa, Coach Pablo said, "He is a talented finisher who is going to have a very important role on the team this year."

"This year I will bring more experience as I get more comfortable with the indoor soccer atmosphere, and I hope to double my goal count with the full 24-game schedule," De Sousa stated.
