Sidekicks Preseason Game Ends in Five Rounds of Shootout

Dallas Sidekicks eye the St. Louis Ambush goal in preseason action

ST. CHARLES, MO - The Dallas Sidekicks played in their first official Major Arena Soccer League preseason game of the 2019-2020 season. The Sidekicks lost 3-4 against the St. Louis Ambush, but fought a valiant battle that had not only an overtime, but five rounds in the shootout period.
In the first quarter, Sidekicks rookie midfielder Raul De La Gala scored first to bring the Sidekicks up 1-0. The Ambush's Pepe Junqueira tied the game up with just three minutes left in the first quarter. The second quarter proved to be filled with scoring on both sides. Axel Duarte of the Ambush put one into the back of the net, but Sidekicks newest Brazilian rookie Luiz Felipe Xavier De Andrade scored his first goal in MASL sanctioned play. Then veteran Frederico Moojen slid one past the goalkeeper to bring the Sidekicks back in the lead 3-2. The Sidekicks were unable to produce on the power player after Diego Bobadilla of the Ambush was sent to the penalty box for a two-footed tackle. A penalty was issued to the Sidekicks for too many men on the field, but they were able to kill the penalty before the Ambush could capitalize and both teams headed to the locker room with the Sidekicks up 3-2 at the half.
Neither team scored in the third quarter and this kept the Sidekicks up 3-2. The fourth quarter showed the Ambush tying the game 3-3 when Stefan St. Louis put one into the back of the net. The contest then went into overtime with both teams unable to capitalize on their respective power plays which sent the teams into a shootout period. The shootout period went five rounds before the Ambush's Tony Walls nailed the game winner, giving the Ambush a 3-2 shootout advantage and resulting in a 4-3 final score. Preseason games do not have a bearing on standings, but this was a good opportunity for the rookies to interact with the veterans in a sanctioned MASL match.
The Sidekicks' first regular season match is November 30th against the Mesquite Outlaws at the Mesquite Rodeo Arena. The first home match for the Sidekicks is on December 14th at 7.05PM at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas against the Monterrey Flash.
