Kansas City Brigade News Release

Kansas City, Mo. (Jan. 23) - When a team is seeking to make improvements over the previous season, it can never have too much of a good thing. That certainly holds true for the Brigade, as the team today announced the singing of defensive back Isaiah Trufant (5-7, 160 lbs., Eastern Washington). The rookie is the fifth new member of a revamped secondary since the off-season began last summer.

"As a staff we are always searching for the best players in order to create a lot of competition on our roster," head coach Kevin Porter said. "Trufant has had success in the indoor game and could be a breakout guy."

Trufant, the younger brother of current Seattle Seahawks cornerback Marcus, will see some familiar faces on the Brigade roster. He started his pro career with the Spokane Shock of arenafootball2, playing alongside Charles Frederick and Ed Ta'amu.

"It's always a good deal to be with guys from a previous team," Trufant said. "I'm just glad to move up a level of football and get the opportunity to play. It's a good fit and the coaches like me."

Trufant, Frederick and Ta'amu won the ArenaCup under head coach Chris Siegfried, the Brigade's new offensive coordinator. Trufant was stellar for the Shock, recording a career-high seven pass break-ups and six tackles in the conference championship, for which he was named defensive player of the game.

Trufant made a name for himself at Eastern Washington, playing in 39 games during a four-year career. He totaled 11 interceptions and 133 total tackles for the Eagles. Trufant was named All-Big Sky First Team as a senior, despite playing in just six games.
