
Shrimp Provide Fireworks in 6-0 Win at Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (38-47, 9-6) defeated the Mobile BayBears (33-50, 6-9) by a 6-0 score in the first game of the six-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Thursday night.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (2-0) earned the victory with his six scoreless innings where he allowed two hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Zack Kelly (1-4) took the loss, pitching four innings where he allowed four runs (all earned) on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Jacksonville struck the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a two-out RBI single by Billy Fleming to take a 1-0 lead. The Shrimp added to the advantage in the top of the third on an RBI double by Brian Miller to put the lead at 2-0. In the top of the fourth, Corey Bird powered out his first Double-A home run, a two-run shot off the right field foul pole, to grow Jacksonville's lead to 4-0. Jacksonville's last two runs came in the top of the eighth with Santiago Chavez provided an RBI single, and an error on the play brought in a second run to make it 6-0, which would be the final score.
Jacksonville relief pitchers Tyler Stevens and Dylan Lee combined for the final three innings on the mound, keeping the BayBears off the board. The Jumbo Shrimp bullpen has not allowed a run in its last 19 innings of work. Five Jacksonville hitters recorded multi-hit games, led by Justin Twine's 3-for-5 performance in the leadoff spot of the Jumbo Shrimp order.
The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will continue the series with the second game of the six-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday night at 8:05 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Josh Roeder (1-2, 4.08 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mobile right-handed pitcher Andrew Wantz (0-1, 4.19 ERA).
