Shreveport wins to avoid sweep
SHREVEPORT, La. The Coastal Bend Aviators lost 8-2 to the Shreveport Sports Sunday afternoon. Shreveport avoided the sweep and the Aviators won the series 2-1.
Down 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning Aviators first baseman Mike Guerrero led off with a double. Guerrero later scored when Edwin Maldonado drove him home on a sacrifice fly.
Shreveport broke the game open in the fifth inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Hector Lebron and Jason Torres. After five innings Shreveport led 6-1.
The Aviators added another run in the seventh inning on Guerreros RBI single. Guerrero finished the game 3 for 5 with a RBI and a run scored.
Brad Koenig (0-1) started the game for the Aviators and took the loss, giving up four earned runs and four hits. The game marked the professional debut for Koenig.
Jason Benson (1-0) pitched six innings and picked up the win for Shreveport.
The Aviators begin a three-games series at Fort Worth tomorrow at 7:05. The Aviators will be back home on Friday, May 20th to take on Shreveport in a three-game series.
